Design Your Resume For A Dream Job !
A resume’ is like a brochure of product to be sold ! It is your own brochure ! Getting a job is quite like selling your skills to the employer.
We forget this fact and do not concentrate on designing a more directed, descriptive and user friendly resume! We ignore the fact that resume will meet our dream employer, quite before we are called for an interview. We will thus be judged by our resume only. It will reflect our skills, experience, our behavioral traits, our strengths and weaknesses. And when we actually meet the recruiter, he will be having some bias about you!
Make a new resume every time !
Every employer is different from other and the priorities may differ from company to company. A company who wants to appoint a sales executive for a region may or may not have an office in that region. So a company not having an office will look for a person who can work as a single man office, operate from his home and has self driven while a company having an office will look out for a person who is a team player.
You need to highlight your selling points pertaining to the company you are applying for a job. So it is obvious that you need to make an exclusive resume for each and every job opening.
Make wise use of ‘Objective’, ‘Summary’ and passive fields like ‘Hobbies and interests’
Make your objective clear and in line with the company’s interests. For ex : when you know that the company does not have an office in the region, say you are looking a job as a resident sales executive for the region. And when they have a office, mention you are a ‘good team player ‘ in your summary .
Make sure that the your CV should fetch you an interview call. After all that is the purpose for what it is been written ! But, yes be genuine and avoid any wrong information. If you not completed your ICWA yet, mention appearing for the last paper of ICWA exams , very clearly , under the heading ‘Education”. Do not say you are an ICWA anywhere !
Neatness !
Use simple fonts like Verdana and Georgia with a standard font size of 12. Use Captions and headlines in bold. Tabulate your skills, achievements instead of writing paragraphs. Do not make exaggerations and be humble. Use passive tense and avoid word ‘I’.
Do not write shabby and discouraging things , especially in ‘interests & hobbies’. Mentioning things like
” watching bolly-wood movies” or “reading novels” can harm your image before you attend a physical interview !
Last but not least , for God’s sake do not commit any spelling mistakes for it can turn down your resume at the very first sight !
